The appreciation potential of zodiac commemorative banknotes is so great!

To celebrate the Chinese New Year, the Macao Special Administrative Region has issued special commemorative zodiac banknotes since 2012, starting with the dragon banknote. So far, eight zodiac banknotes have been issued. Judging from the market prices of Macao's zodiac banknotes in recent years, the analysis below is also confirmed: the 2012 dragon banknote, which was issued only 8 years ago, has now increased in price by nearly 60 times. The other zodiac banknotes have also increased to varying degrees. The overall trend is promising!
The Macau Zodiac commemorative banknotes are issued by two banks: the Bank of China and the Banco Nacional Ultramarino. Each banknote issues one, forming a pair, hence the name "pair note." The Macau Zodiac commemorative banknotes are issued annually with a denomination of 10 yuan.
The main pattern on the front of the Macau Zodiac banknote is Chinese paper-cutting, which is included in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. It embodies the shapes of the various animals of the Chinese zodiac, as well as the "Fu" character picture posted by the Chinese people during the Chinese Spring Festival, showing the custom of welcoming the spring and receiving blessings. The background is the Earthly Branches table and is set off by lanterns symbolizing reunion. The main pattern on the back is the Bank of China Macau Branch Building, and the background is the Macau A-Ma Temple, which is included in the World Heritage List, and the traditional Chinese auspicious picture of a hundred children. The pattern that runs through it is a lotus watermark and superimposed zodiac patterns, which are the same for each year issued.

1. Uniqueness: The Macau Zodiac Banknotes are the world's first and currently the only set of legal tender notes featuring the Chinese zodiac, issued continuously for 12 years. While mainland China issued zodiac stamps and coins earlier, it had never issued banknotes. Macau, which began issuing zodiac commemorative banknotes in 2012, has made up for this shortcoming. 2. Small initial circulation, high demand. Experience shows that the most valuable pieces in sets released annually are often the first few. For example, the Macau Dragon Banknotes had a circulation of only 10 million sets. Compared to various commemorative banknotes and coins in mainland China, this relatively small number of units is accompanied by a high demand, attracting collectors from Macau, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and especially mainland China.
3. Innovation in the title characters: The use of the Chinese zodiac calendar as the title characters for the Macau zodiac banknotes is the first time in modern banknotes (for example, the Renchen dragon banknotes use the Chinese title character "Renchen").
The Macau Zodiac banknotes feature extensive SD intaglio printing technology. Touching the right side of the note reveals a noticeably stronger convexity than on the RMB. Multiple measures, including intaglio printing, a windowed security thread, offset intaglio patterns, fluorescent display detection, and offset intaglio microtext, further enhance the Macau Zodiac banknotes' appeal.
5. Zodiac-themed coins have become a rising star in the collectible investment market. Starting with the first zodiac-themed Monkey stamp issued in 1980, followed by the first zodiac commemorative coin, the Sheep coin, in 2003, and the first zodiac gold and silver coin, the Ox coin, in 1985, their value has appreciated dozens to hundreds of times! An 8-cent Monkey stamp now sells for 12,000 yuan, while a 1-yuan Sheep coin fetches over 400 yuan. This demonstrates that zodiac-themed coins are only rising in value, and they are the most popular paper currency among the public, indicating a bright financial future. 6. Innovative Design: The design of the stamp is novel, and the prominent "Fu" character makes it a popular gift for friends and family, leading to a huge demand.
