Sam Hui, born on September 6, 1948 in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, is a male singer, actor and musician from Hong Kong, China. He graduated from the University of Hong Kong.
In 1967, he became the lead singer of the band Lotus, releasing their debut album, "Just A Little," that same year. He began his solo career in 1970. In 1971, he gained attention for his song "Iron Tower Soaring into the Clouds." In 1973, he starred in his debut film, "Street Hero." His 1974 Cantonese album, "Ghostly Twin Stars," marked the beginning of Hong Kong's Cantonese pop music. In 1977, he won the Centennial Award at the 1st Golden Disc Awards for his album "Half a Catty, Eight Taels." In 1978, he starred in the comedy film "The Contract," which became the highest-grossing Hong Kong film of the year. In 1981, his song "Impression" won the 4th Top Ten Chinese Golden Melody Awards. In 1982, he signed with Cinema City Film Company; that same year, he starred in the comedy film "Best Partner," which also became the highest-grossing Hong Kong film of the year. In 1985, he won the Golden Needle Award at the 8th Top Ten Chinese Golden Melody Awards, becoming the first Hong Kong singer to receive this honor. In 1986, he won the Jade Solid Gold Award at the Jade Solid Gold Awards Ceremony. In 1989, he released the album "Sam Hui 89 Song Collection".

In 1990, he gained attention for his role as Linghu Chong in the film "Swordsman." In 1991, he won the Best Film Song Award at the 10th Hong Kong Film Awards for "A Laugh in the Ocean." In 1992, he announced his retirement from the music industry and held a 41-show "Farewell Concert" at the Hong Kong Coliseum. In 1993, he starred in the comedy film "Water Margin" before fading from the film industry. He returned to the music industry in 2004 and held 38 concerts at the Hong Kong Coliseum. In 2005, he received the CASH Golden Sail Music Award for Music Achievement. In 2010, he held a concert at the Guangzhou Gymnasium. In 2014, he held a concert in Shanghai.
