Create measurable identity fields for each coin

Preserve the original condition and the order of the photos
- Number each coin C01, C02 and so on; use the same number for its obverse, reverse, edge and measurements.
- Do not clean, polish, test-scrape, apply acid or place a strong magnet against the surface.
- Even if an old bag or tag appears mismatched, retain it for now and keep it separate from conclusions about the coin.
- Coins dated the same year may have different mints, dies or edges; a shared date does not establish the same variety.
Common issues with organizing coins in safes
Should every Chinese silver dollar be assigned to a 'provincial mint'?
No. Use that field only when the coin and institutional records clearly support a specific provincial mint; otherwise record the country, mint or mint mark as appropriate.
Does the same weight establish the same die variety?
No. Weight is one factor only; also compare diameter, thickness, edge design, lettering, motifs and provenance.
Should surface toning be removed first?
No. Cleaning alters the surface and may destroy diagnostic clues. Take complete photographs in natural light first, then seek an appropriate assessment.
