Yoichi is the first distillery established by Masataka Taketsuru, the founder of Nikka Whisky, in 1934 in Yoichi-cho, Hokkaido. It is the only distillery in Japan that still uses coal-fired direct heating for its stills, producing a unique peaty, sea-breeze, and smoky style. In 2015, Nikka discontinued all 10/12/15/20 Year Old Yoichi Single Malts, and now only releases the core non-vintage Yoichi Single Malt.
