Case details
On this page
Hennessy Paradis and Hennessy X.O are separate official expressions, not one grade in different packaging. Their creation dates, blending positions and current decanter descriptions differ, while older bottles still require version-specific checks of volume, ABV, bottle shape, labels and accessories.
Official differences between the two expressions
| Field | Hennessy X.O | Hennessy Paradis |
|---|---|---|
| Creation | Created by Maurice Hennessy in 1870 | Created by Maurice Fillioux in 1979 |
| Official positioning | Hennessy’s Original X.O; an Extra Old Cognac | A separate blend described through harmony, roundness and a silky texture |
| Maturation description | The current page describes its eaux-de-vie and oak ageing | The page states that its eaux-de-vie mature in very old casks |
| Decanter history | Gérald de Geoffre designed the first X.O decanter in 1947 | The current Paradis decanter reinterprets the X.O silhouette with wing-like lines |
Do not date an older bottle from current product images
- For both Paradis and X.O, transcribe the formal name, volume, ABV, front and back labels, bottle-base markings and import label.
- Record the shoulder, neck, stopper top, capsule, moulded glass code and box style separately. Do not project the current decanter design onto an older version.
- The 1979 creation date for Paradis is not the bottling year of a bottle in hand; 1870 for X.O is not the age of the liquid.
- Match boxes, booklets, certificates and accessories bottle by bottle. Similar brown or gold packaging does not establish the same release.
