The regular Hibiki 30 Year Old bottle, the Kacho Fugetsu limited edition, an Arita ware ceramic decanter and Hibiki 35 Year Old craft decanters are different releases despite their similar names. Before comparing a collectable bottle with an auction lot, check its age statement, decanter, volume, closure and original accessories. The price attached to one lot cannot simply be applied to another bottle.

How do the regular Hibiki 30 and design editions differ?

Suntory says that Hibiki 21 Year Old and Hibiki Japanese Harmony use 24-facet bottles, reflecting both the hours in a day and Japan’s 24 seasonal divisions. The regular Hibiki 30 Year Old instead comes in a 30-facet crystal bottle symbolising its age, with a deep-purple neck band and an Echizen washi label. These are starting points for identifying the regular edition. The facets alone cannot authenticate every limited release. Source: Suntory on Hibiki bottle design.

Hibiki Japanese Harmony Limited Edition Design bottle and box, not Hibiki 30 Year Old

This is Hibiki Japanese Harmony Limited Edition Design, shown only for comparison of bottle shape and packaging. It is not Hibiki 30 Year Old and should not be used as an example of a Hibiki 30 edition.

Kacho Fugetsu is another Hibiki 30 release to verify separately. Sotheby’s catalogued a lot as “Hibiki 30 Year Old Kacho Fugetsu Limited Edition”, describing a 700 ml bottle at 43% ABV with its original box and leaflet. Those details can help compare editions and accessories; they do not establish the provenance or present value of every bottle. Source: Sotheby’s Kacho Fugetsu lot.

Hibiki 30 has also appeared in a collaboration with Japanese artist Hiroshi Senju. Suntory describes a limited edition inspired by “Waterfall in Colors ‘Hibiki’”, displayed in the form of a traditional folding screen. There is a Hibiki 21 Year Old release in the same collaboration. Do not confuse Hibiki 30 Arita ware with Hibiki 35 ceramic decanters

Hibiki 30 Year Old Arita ware ceramic decanters do appear in auction records. A 2021 Sotheby’s lot, for example, was catalogued as “Hibiki 30 Year Old Aritayaki Edition Ceramic Decanter”, at 43% ABV and 750 ml, with an original display case. These specifications describe that individual lot. A bottle with a different volume or package still needs its own check. Source: Sotheby’s Hibiki 30 Aritayaki lot.

Hibiki 35 Year Old also has ceramic collaborations. Suntory separately describes the “色繪薄墨草花文洋酒瓶” decanter by 13th-generation Imaizumi Imaemon and the “碧陽” decanter made with the Yosai technique by third-generation Tokuda Yasokichi. The makers, shapes and designs differ, so use the complete edition name when identifying a bottle. Source: Suntory on Japanese craft collaborations.

Two special 2016 Hibiki 35 Year Old Arita ware and Kutani ware releases were each limited to 150 bottles. That figure does not apply to every Hibiki 35 release. Suntory lists both as 700 ml at 47% ABV; the Arita ware edition was made by Iwao Taizan Kiln and the Kutani ware edition by Kutani Ginsen Kiln. Source: Suntory’s 2016 release notice.

How can auction estimates be used?

An auction-house estimate helps identify how a specific edition was catalogued. It is an estimate made before a sale, not a completed sale price or Hong Kang Trading’s current buyback offer. The three lots below differ in year, volume, condition and accessories, so their estimate differences cannot be used to calculate a general “craft premium”.

  • A 2024 Sotheby’s Hibiki 30 Kacho Fugetsu lot had an estimate of HK$35,000–50,000. The listing described a 700 ml bottle with an original box and leaflet. View the original lot.
  • A 2021 Sotheby’s Hibiki 30 Aritayaki ceramic decanter lot had an estimate of HK$35,000–50,000. The listing described a 750 ml bottle and original display case. View the original lot.
  • A 2022 Sotheby’s Hibiki 35 Tokuda Yasokichi “碧陽” lot had an estimate of HK$480,000–700,000 and was listed with an original wooden box. View the original lot.

For an individual comparison, also check the precise edition, volume, fill level, closure, label, decanter, certificate and outer box. A historical estimate reflects the listed lot at that time. It cannot establish today’s sale price or buyback offer for another bottle.

Maki-e craft and Hibiki 40: check the official release quantity

Hibiki 40 Year Old has different craft features from the 30- and 35-year-old editions above. Suntory says that the cap of its crystal bottle has a maki-e decoration and that its 12-sided wooden box uses 12 kinds of wood. The Japanese lottery release in 2025 was limited to 100 bottles. That quantity applies to that specific official release. Neither its official retail price nor an asking price in another market is a Hong Kong buyback price. How should the hologram labels introduced in 2024 be read?

From production batches made in March 2024 onward, Suntory began gradually adding two hologram labels to the opening seal and back of selected Hibiki, Yamazaki and Hakushu products. Hibiki 30 Year Old is among the products listed in the notice. Suntory also says the change was rolled out gradually, so bottles without both new labels may still be in circulation. The presence or absence of a new label alone cannot establish authenticity, and its colour cannot be used to calculate a fixed buyback value. Source: Suntory’s 2024 hologram notice.

Ask about a Hibiki 30 or Hibiki 35 bottle

If you have photographs of the bottle, closure, back label, fill level, outer box and certificate, organise the edition and accessory details before contacting Hong Kang Trading. Whether an individual bottle is purchased and any offer depend on the item and information available at the time. You can also browse the whisky collection.
