《石頭記》 (literally “The Story of the Stone”) and 《你還愛我嗎?》 (“Do You Still Love Me?”) are both Tat Ming Pair albums, but their editions must be checked separately when discussing a “first pressing” or a buyback price. The English glosses help readers identify the works; they are not official pressing identifiers. The same album can have pressings from different places and years. A similar-looking sleeve cannot establish an edition on its own; the record, sleeve and accessories also need to be assessed.

《石頭記》: identify the edition in your hands first

Apple Music’s Tat Ming Pair essentials playlist describes 《石頭記》 as the duo’s second album, released in 1987, and notes its electronic and rock elements. This provides context for the work. It does not establish the pressing year of a particular record or prove that it is a first pressing.

There is also a stage production called 《石頭記》. Zuni Icosahedron’s performance archive records shows at Ko Shan Theatre on 14 and 15 February 1987, with music by Tat Ming Pair and Wong Ka Chi. That connects the work to Hong Kong’s 1980s theatre culture, but the performance record does not show that the entire LP was made for the stage production. It is not evidence of a particular pressing either. See Zuni Icosahedron’s performance archive.

Apple Music’s description of the later 《復黑王:石頭記》 release notes that the album opens with 〈離〉 and ends with 〈棄〉, and credits Mai Ke for the lyrics of 〈石頭記〉. These tracks and credits help identify the work, but they do not make a record in hand a 1980s vinyl pressing. The Apple Music page describes a CD made to resemble a vinyl release. Read Apple Music’s album description.

For a copy of 《石頭記》, photograph the front, back and spine of the sleeve, followed by both centre labels. Transcribe the label, catalogue number, country and copyright details as printed on the item. Photograph any lyric sheet, poster or other inserts separately. Accessories can vary by edition, so one missing sheet alone does not prove that a record is a later pressing.

Then photograph the unrecorded inner area on both sides in angled light, capturing the full stamped or etched strings. These are matrix or runout details that can help compare pressings. A letter or number in isolation is not a “first pressing certificate”; it must be read alongside the markings on the same record.

As a starting point for comparison, MusicBrainz lists a 1987 Hong Kong Philips 12-inch vinyl edition of 《石頭記》 with catalogue number 832 203-1 and ten tracks. The same release-group list includes a cassette and later CD and SACD editions. If your copy is an LP, compare the full number on its label and sleeve, then check the tracks. Seeing “832 203” alone is not enough to claim a first pressing. Compare the listed 《石頭記》 editions.

《你還愛我嗎?》: do not reuse the 《石頭記》 checklist

Apple Music’s page for 《你還愛我嗎?》 lists the work as a 1988 album with nine tracks and a “℗ 1988 Universal Music Ltd.” credit. It also says “Remastered 2019”. Those details concern the work and a later digital remaster; they do not verify the first-pressing status of a vinyl copy.

《你還愛我嗎?》 includes 〈禁色〉, 〈沒有張揚的命案〉 and the title track. The song titles help identify the album but cannot replace format and label information. MusicBrainz separately lists a 1988 Hong Kong Philips 12-inch vinyl edition, 834 758-1, with nine tracks, and a CD from the same year numbered 834 758-2. The different suffixes are a useful reminder not to mistake a CD catalogue number for the LP number. Compare the listed 《你還愛我嗎?》 editions.

Make a separate record of your 《你還愛我嗎?》 copy. Do the words on the sleeve and centre labels match? Do the catalogue details, runout markings on both sides and inserts belong to the same edition? A record may have been placed in another sleeve or paired with a different insert, making one component misleading. Recording each detail before comparing it with reliable edition data is safer than memorising one supposedly definitive first-pressing code.

For both albums, photograph the playing surface, sleeve corners, spine, and any water marks or mould separately. Where possible, note persistent surface noise, skipping or warping during playback. This helps describe the record and sleeve conditions separately instead of labelling the whole set simply “90% new”.

A vinyl-style CD is not a 1980s LP

Apple Music’s description of 《復黑王:石頭記》 says that Universal Music presented a classic album as a CD styled to resemble vinyl. A name or cover that suggests “vinyl” does not turn it into a 1987 vinyl pressing. For 《石頭記》, identify whether the format is an LP, CD or something else before comparing editions. The remastered digital issue of 《你還愛我嗎?》 should likewise be considered separately from an older LP.

Check white labels, promotional records and EPs separately

A white label, promotional designation and test pressing are different clues. Label colour alone cannot establish a first pressing, a pressing quantity or sound quality. A 12-inch single or EP may also have different tracks and speed from either full album. Before comparing prices, identify the same work and the same physical edition. Discogs’ format guidance distinguishes White Label, Promo and Test Pressing descriptions. Without matching release information and completed-sale records, the asking price of one promotional record should not be applied to an ordinary album.

Discogs’ guide to finding record information and identifier guidance explain how to read labels and runout markings. These are methods, not substitutes for evidence from your copy. For condition terminology, see Discogs’ grading guidance and Goldmine’s grading guide. Grading describes condition; it does not set a fixed Hong Kong dollar buyback price or discount formula.

Ask about a Tat Ming Pair vinyl record

Photograph 《石頭記》 and 《你還愛我嗎?》 separately, including their centre labels, runout markings, sleeves and accessories. Note whether you have played each record and any visible defects. Hong Kang Trading can discuss an appraisal based on the details you provide. Any final offer still depends on the specific edition, its condition and demand at the time. An online asking price is not a guaranteed buyback price for a record that has not been examined.
