The 2008 Olympic commemorative banknote as a specific example
A government-domain mirror preserving the People’s Bank of China announcement lists a denomination of 10 yuan, an issue of 600 lots of ten thousand notes — six million notes in total — and dimensions of 148.5 × 72 mm for the 2008 Olympic commemorative banknote. These specifications support that issue only; they cannot be applied to Olympic banknotes, zodiac banknotes or uncut sheets from another jurisdiction.
- First transcribe the issuer and denomination printed on the note, then consult the corresponding announcement.
- Place nicknames in the alias field, and keep items with the same nickname but different jurisdictions separate.
- Use non-destructive measurement methods. Do not fold, iron, clean or dismantle the original mounting.

Is “dragon banknote” an adequate description by itself?
No. At a minimum, record the issuer, legal-currency jurisdiction, year, denomination, prefix and serial number, and official name printed on the note.
Can a single note and an uncut sheet be placed in one comparison group?
No. Their layouts, note counts, dimensions, mounting and preservation risks differ, so they should be recorded separately.
Must the prefix and serial number be disclosed in full?
The internal record may retain the full number. When sharing it externally, part of the number may be redacted if necessary, but the original photograph and internal inventory must remain linked.
