A Review of Champagne and Sake Starts with the Bottle

Vintage Champagne and sake are particularly sensitive to storage temperature, closure and liquid condition. Photograph any production date, disgorgement or bottling information together with the original box.

Champagne releases and sake bottlings with similar names can differ in date, closure, liquid condition and storage history. A final Champagne or sake review requires the dated markings, closure, fill and storage evidence, not one blurred image.

What We Check

We check the brand, vintage or production date, bottle size, closure, fill level, labels, original box and refrigeration history. If the vintage, production date, closure or refrigeration history is unclear, we specify the missing evidence to send.

  • Front and back labels, plus the vintage or production date
  • Closure, fill level, bottle base and box label
  • Include refrigeration or purchase records where available

Before Handover

How long sake has been out of chilled storage matters; keep Champagne away from heat and agitation. If the history is unclear, state that it is unknown rather than guessing.

  • Group bottles by expression and state the quantity
  • Show any leakage, sediment, mould on labels or damp damage to the box
  • Agree the handover method around the storage needs and location

Related Resources

Browse related collections first, then organise the information around the producer, vintage or production date, and bottle size.

Send Photos for an Initial Review

Champagne photographs should cover the vintage or release, foil, cork area, fill and case; sake photographs should show the maker, grade, production date, closure and storage. Include the quantity and location for each group.
