A Whisky Review Starts with the Bottle
Age statements, bottling editions, batch details and presentation boxes can all affect identification. Japanese whisky, Scotch and discontinued releases use different markings, so start with clear photographs of the labels and bottle base.
Whisky carrying the same expression may come from different bottlings or packaging generations and show different seal or fill condition. Whisky pricing and final assessment wait until the label, base, closure and packaging can be checked together.
What We Check
We check the distillery, range, age statement, bottle size, ABV, fill level, seal, batch code, base markings and box. When an age statement, batch code, fill level or box detail is unclear, we ask for that specific missing view.
- Front and back labels, bottle shoulder and fill level
- Seal, cap, bottle-base engraving and batch code
- Carton or wooden box, certificate and other accessories
Before Handover
Do not open a bottle to check its aroma, reglue loose material, replace labels or clean fragile packaging.
- Label different ages in the same range separately
- If the box and bottle numbers correspond, photograph them together
- Final assessment depends on completeness and current demand
