Whisky Buyback Series
Whisky Buyback — Macallan, Karuizawa, Hibiki, Yamazaki: All Discontinued and Limited Editions Collected

About Our Buyback Service
In recent years, Japanese whisky has appreciated faster than stocks, with auction prices for Macallan, Karuizawa, Hibiki, and Yamazaki repeatedly reaching new highs. If you have Hibiki or Hakushu aged 17 years or older, or discontinued Karuizawa or Hanyu "Playing Cards" series, Hong Kang Trading can provide an immediate quote. Our team tracks the hammer prices of Bonhams and Sotheby's Hong Kong whisky auctions weekly to offer top-tier buyback prices.
Suitable for: Investment liquidation, collection resale, or whisky enthusiasts clearing out their collections.
Japanese Whisky Market: Why Discontinued Distilleries' Value Doubles
The price of Japanese whisky has surged crazily in the past decade, with the most dramatic increases seen in products from closed distilleries. Karuizawa Distillery ceased production in 2000, and Hanyu Distillery closed in 2004. With stocks from these two distilleries becoming increasingly rare, the market has long been undersupplied. A single bottle of Karuizawa single cask whisky, which might have cost a few thousand Hong Kong dollars ten years ago, now fetches tens or even hundreds of thousands.
Around 2015, Japanese whisky experienced a "bubble period." During that time, the prices of Hibiki 21 Year Old and Yamazaki 18 Year Old were speculative and detached from reasonable values. After a few years of market adjustment, prices retreated to a more rational level, but the baseline price for high-quality Japanese whisky is still several times higher than it was a decade ago, making a return to previous levels unlikely.
NAS (No Age Statement) whiskies have become increasingly common in recent years, leading many to question their investment value. Simply put, the resale value of NAS whiskies is generally lower than that of their age-stated counterparts in the same series. For instance, while Yamazaki Limited Edition is sought after, its premium in the secondary market is nowhere near that of Yamazaki 18 Year Old or 25 Year Old.
The resale market for Scotch whisky is relatively mature and stable, with Macallan 18 Year Old and 25 Year Old consistently holding their value with less fluctuation. Japanese whisky, however, is still in the price discovery phase, making it more volatile. If you possess discontinued Japanese whisky or limited edition Scotch whisky, now could be an excellent time to liquidate your assets.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much is a Hibiki 30 Year Old worth?
A single bottle of Hibiki 30 Year Old (old version) ranges from HKD 50,000 to 80,000, depending on the outer box, fill level, and whether it's unopened. Japanese classic series (Hibiki 17 Year Old, Hibiki 21 Year Old) also have market value even if discontinued; you can WhatsApp us for a quote.
Karuizawa is discontinued, do you still collect it?
Yes, it's a priority for us. We collect all vintages of Karuizawa 1960, 1965, 1972, 1980, 1999, 2000 single cask bottlings, especially Bourbon Cask, Sherry Cask, and Cask Strength versions.
Does a slightly dropped fill level affect the buyback price?
The impact is limited. As long as there's no leakage, spoilage, and the bottle is intact, a slight drop in fill level will not significantly reduce the price. If the fill level drops below the shoulder, an inspection will be required.
I have 30 whiskies from different brands, can you buyback them all at once?
Absolutely, bulk buyback may receive a premium. We recommend taking photos in batches (clearly showing the label, vintage, and fill level) and sending them via WhatsApp.
